Charley was born in 1950 in Mississippi. She moved to Los Angeles in 1953 and grew up there graduating from Locke High School in 1969. Charley married and moved to Denver in 1989. In 1999, Charley and her husband were illegally evicted from their apartment and eventually moved back to California for the chance at a new start. From that point in, with many odd jobs in between, Charley and her husband had been homeless on and off up through 2008 living everywhere from their car to the top of a church in Los Angeles. In October 2008, Charley’s husband died. Charley currently lives in the Huntington Hotel in downtown Los Angeles where she is being evicted for not being able to pay rent for several months.
